TCU Texas Book Award

The Friends of the TCU Library and TCU Press co-sponsor the TCU Texas Book Award, a prize of $5,000 given to the author of the best book about Texas. Fiction, nonfiction, art and photography books, and others will be considered; juvenile and young-adult works are excluded, as are dramatic works. Deadline for entries is December 31, 2006.

A review panel at TCU will do preliminary judging. Jeff Guinn, Shelby Hearon and Carlton Stowers will do final judging. Jeff Guinn is the former book editor of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and author of ten books, including the Autobiography of Santa Claus and Our Land Before We Die, winner of the 2003 TCU Texas Book Award. Shelby Hearon, the author of eighteen novels, including Hug Dancing, A Prince of a Fellow, and The Second Dune, is a former president of the Texas Institute of Letters, and a charter inductee into the Texas Literary Hall of Fame. Carlton Stowers is a journalist and author of over seventeen books, including Edgar Award winners for crime writing, To the Last Breath and Careless Whispers.

To enter: send three copies of the book to TCU Press, Box 298300, Fort Worth, Texas 76129, clearly marked for the "TCU Texas Book Award." Please send books to arrive after September 1, 2006; books must be postmarked by December 31, 2006, to be eligible. Author, publisher, agent, or any interested party may make submissions. No acknowledgement of entries will be sent, and books cannot be returned. Each entry must include the entrant's address and phone number. Only one book by any author will be considered. Books must have been published between January 1, 2005, and December 31, 2006. The winner will be notified by March 1, 2007. Works published by TCU Press are not eligible for this competition, nor are works by TCU faculty and personnel.

The award: The presentation of $5,000 and a certificate will be made at a banquet in Fort Worth in spring 2007. The author of the winning title must attend and deliver remarks.
